
ABOUT the hope study
The HOPE Study is a ​DOD-sponsored research study examining ​the efficacy of a 60-minute session of Prolonged Exposure therapy when compared to the standard 90-minute session length.

This study provides free weekly Prolonged Exposure therapy and assessments to active duty service members with a diagnosis of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). All participation in this study is confidential and voluntary.

Participation is initiated by a phone screening, followed by an in-person assessment to evaluate each participant's suitability for this study. Following the initial assessment, participants can expect to have 8-15 individual therapy sessions. Completing therapy is followed by a post-treatment assessment and follow-up assessments 3 and 6 months after treatment.
who is eligible?
This study is open to active duty service members between the ages of 18 and 65 who are currently experiencing PTSD symptoms.

Prolonged Exposure is a type of Cognitive-Behavioral therapy that combines traditional talk-therapy with activities to address a specific problem. The goal of Prolonged Exposure is to reduce negative emotional reactivity, avoidance, and intrusions connected to past traumas to improve the patient's quality of life.
